My Powerbook essay is on the substory entitled “Special”. The neighboring substories are “Empty Trash” and “Own Hero”. The reason I chose to do this substory was because I found it interesting because of the risk taken by the characters involved. There are plenty of risks taken in the story. The first risk is to climb Mount Everest in the first place. The other major risk is to continue climbing while the rest of your team turns around and proceeds down the mountain.pg 175-“took their oxygen cylinders and began to climb Everest one last time”.pg 175- “No matter how high they climbed, Everest was higher”.pg 175- “By now, the rest of their party were unfit, frostbitten, snow-blind and altitude sick. Irvine’s skin was peeling off his face due to freezing air temperatures contrasted with 120 F in the sun.”pg 175- “The camp was ready to break up. Mallory argued for a final attempt. His colleagues thought he was in poor condition and mentally unstable.”pg 176- “Irvine followed. Young, inexperienced, faithful, he would have followed Mallory anywhere.”Pg 177- “Why could he hear his heart?…He was thirsty. They had lost their stove and hadn’t been able to thaw any ice”.pg 178- “Irvine was shaking uncontrollably, though Mallory was still”I believe that taking risk will allow you to fully live your life. I argue that the risk in this substory allows the characters to fulfill their passions which motivates those around them.
